Rooky Move

Privacy

Last updated 22 August 2026. Questions, or a deletion request: calvin@rookymove.com.

What we store

Two things, and nothing else:

  • The username you search, the site it was on, and the time. Just the handle — magnuscarlsen, hikaru — with a timestamp. We use it to see what the site is being used for.
  • Anything you type into the Insights Request form, and your email address if you choose to give one. The email field is optional and the form works without it.

What we do not store

Your games are never uploaded. Chess.com and Lichess are read directly by your own browser, and every calculation on this site happens on your device. No moves, results, ratings or archives reach us, and there is no account to create.

Cookies and analytics

Google Analytics records anonymous usage — pages viewed, roughly where in the world from, which links are clicked — and sets cookies to do it. Some links to Remote Chess Academy are affiliate links, and clicking one may let them set a cookie to credit the referral. We do not sell data to anyone.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be erased. Email calvin@rookymove.com with the username in question and it will be deleted — all of it, tracking included. No account or proof of identity is needed, because we hold nothing that could identify you beyond the handle itself.

Our basis for holding it is legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. If you would rather we did not, say so and it goes.

Children

Rooky Move is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly store data from them. If a child's username has been searched and you want it removed, email us and it will be.

Changes

If what we store changes, this page changes with it and the date above moves.
